So much has been said on this thing in different fora. And here's my two cents I do not want to find out why Agnes did what she did. (Let's call her husband Joe) If you pick a Recorder and hit the streets with a view to interview on this, you will get stuff such as,
'Do you know that woman? She has always been very loose'
'I can't believe Agnes did that! She has been so good since her very early days'
'I think it was a mistake for her to marry that man. He's never courteous to her' 'That serves Joe right. The way he's been sleeping around!' 'Poor Joe. He's such a nice man. So faithful. The ideal husband!' 'Agnes's boss has been so supportive. Knows how to treat a woman lyk a lady' What I am saying is, there could be many, many reasons why that happened. Right now, that does not concern me. What concerns me is Agnes's spiritual condition. Let me hasten to point out that I do not support her behaviour. She has bee vilified by all and sundry. I am sure some of us have been engaging in the same vice. The only difference is that we have not been caught. Few give the thought that she is a human being no consideration. Some of the comments are so callous they make you think that as far as sinning is concerned, Agnes can give Satan a run for his money. How, for example, does one say that he wishes she contracted AIDS?. To me, such a person thinks Agnes should not be alive. We have condemned her to die. She must be so traumatized. I hope this has not sent her to desperation. And yet, there is One who knows what she did and has stood her. Between the time she did it and the time it became public, God knew. He did not kill her. He gave her a chance to change her ways. We are too holy to stand such an abomination. The off-shoot of this is that our standards of holiness are higher than God's. We are unable to stand a sin that God is able to. God, in Isa 1:18, says, Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. But we are not able to do that. If I were to meet Agnes today, I'd give her big hug and assure that, though the world has condemned and given up on her, God in heaven has not. All she has to do is repent and receive forgiveness. Galatians 6:1-3 warn us to 'correct' each other with love, knowing very well that we too, could have been in their shoes. If I got caught in a similar situation, this global condemnation would be the last thing I'd want to experience. We should not support this behaviour, yet on the other hand we ought to go slow on the condemnation. When dealing with people and issues. I find Philipians 4:8 very good. I'd rather think of Agnes as this beautiful woman Joe thought a worthy being a life partner. Whatever bad behaviour may have creeped in, the Blood is able to deal with. Like the Phoenix, she will rise again, for the God of Second Chance liveth .
