While praying for His followers, Jesus Christ in John 17 made the statement that we are IN the world but not OF the world.
Ever since I came to this land, I have seen things that have baffled me. I have been severally rebuked by my friends and reminded that I am IN America. I have been 'advised' to leave Kenya and come to America. So many months down the line, I still see the dollar in terms of Kenya shillings. The other day I paid a cell phone bill of $91.80. I have a mathematical brain which quickly converted that amount to Kenya shillings 7,000.00. That amount can pay my Mjukuu’s tuition for a whole term, buy him snacks the whole time with change to spare.
I do not want to swear, but I think it will take me some time before I become OF America even as I am IN America. It reminds me what Wahome Mutahi would say: You can get him out the Slopes of Mt. Kenya but you can not get the Slopes out of him.
In the next Rambling, I will tell you of a discussion I had with 2 other men over breakfast.
